Philanthropy and Community Leadership

We focus on philanthropic giving in the following areas: food and nutrition initiatives; improvements in science, arts, and education; and programs and organizations to support and improve the communities in which we live and work in the United States and abroad. These areas support the contexts of our corporate values and company goals.

Corporate philanthropy has a social and economic impact on our employees and the community. CBORD has had a long-term commitment to enhancing the community and the sectors we serve. We hope to influence the availability of skilled and motivated employees and the efficiency of the local infrastructure to enhance quality of life in the communities where we work and live.

External Requests and CBORD Consideration…

CBORD looks to honor external requests. All requests need to be in writing. Requests need to include the specific cause, event, and financial request. Requests are to be directed to the Human Resources Department.

Note: Since we have over 6,000 clients worldwide, we are not in a position to honor client requests due to our budget.

CBORD looks to consider all employee and external requests as they relate to its philanthropic values and its budget each year. Philanthropic budgets are set 18 months in advance by July 1 each year.

CBORD also looks to give once through the United Way campaign each year to those receivers of United Way funding.

Community Leadership

A 1998 Community Service Award recipient for making "outstanding contributions to the quality of life in Tompkins County," CBORD is a firm believer in community support and leadership. In addition to providing significant financial support to various agencies and community organizations, CBORD provides in-kind contributions to many organizations of staff "sweat equity" which takes many forms, including services as board members, technology advisers, committee participators, and donators of other creative talents.

United Way

United Way of Tompkins CountyCelebrating over 80 years of serving Tompkins County, The United Way of Tompkins County represents a family of 40 member organizations that deliver needed and quality services every day. We believe there are many heroes at our company and in our community. As a local campaign Pacesetter company, CBORD pledges a matching grant to employee contributions. CBORD also sponsors the United Way Day of Caring held each fall.

Sciencenter

Ithaca Sciencenter A long-time supporter of the Ithaca Sciencenter, one of the projects CBORD proudly sponsored was Ithaca Sciencenter development of a scale model of the solar system commemorating the work of the late Carl Sagan. The exhibit, a walking tour from the Commons to the Sciencenter, was unveiled November 8, 1997, with an opening speech by Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Special passports to the sun were distributed by CBORD volunteers, with each planet stamping passports as walkers "paced the space." In addition to sponsoring the planet Venus, the company will participate in the Planet Walk's Protect a Planet program, in which volunteers will pace the space at a later date and report on the condition of the planets and footpath.

“I have been going to the UGC for a long time. I enjoy seeing and networking with the CBORDians and with other users. It is a great time to talk about the product and learn how other users use it. I always come away with good information. I also feel the caucus session is instrumental in how we shape the product. It is a great time to give feedback and new ideas.”
